It is often more difficult to be celebrated than devastated, because celebration brings up an entirely different kind of vulnerability and risk. The risk of being loved. The risk of being seen. The risk of being left. The risk of it never happening again. The risk of loss. If we just stay devastated, we can actually avoid the perils of vulnerability. Nothing to celebrate, but nothing to lose. Every time you push forward and reveal yourself, you risk bringing up a whole host of fears and feelings that remain dormant when you don't make that step.
